ROVER SD1 V8S

Here we have a Works built SD1 rac car, the only one they produced for Group 2. The car was built in 1980 by David Price Racing who had been commissioned by Britsh Leyland to build it.

It was prepared specifically to compete in the 1980 Tourist Trophy race at Silverstone. The main sponsorship deal was secured by Unipart and the car was to be driven by Jeff Allam and Tiff Needell. During the race it ran as high as third position before a blown engine ended their race prematurely.

This was the only ever Works Group 2 built, the later very succesful Rover Vitesse race cars were built to Group A regulations by Tom Walkinshaw Racing (TWR).

The car was fully restored in 1996/7 and with the blessing of Unipart once again runs in its original livery, and is a regular competitor in the Classic Thunder Championship.
